In this new series Daytripping- we will Discover South Carolina and it’s hidden gems. While I will always share ways to explore Charleston, this will highlight the smaller town that you can get to and back in a day with lots of fun in between!

First stop is Summerville, SC. First up, it’s known as the home of sweet tea and the Azalea festival. The downtown area centers around Hutchinson Square, and make sure to stop into the Guerin’s Pharmacy to step back in time. Some cute side street shops include Cotton Down South and French Mercantile. But most importantly, find the largest sweet tea! This statue is hidden but huge! Here’s a hint: look near the parking garage.

Next up, Summerville is known for antiquing! My mom and I attended the antique holiday event every year. It’s such a fond memory, they always had the best snacks. (way more interesting than antiques at the time to me!) The prices are reasonable and the finds, unebelievable! So many great stores, make a list and hit as many as you can.

And finally, the “new” area of Summerville is worth visiting. Nexton is the winner of the best Planned Community in the country for good reason. The Villas at Nexton is a cottage community that has 1, 2, 3 bedroom homes for rent, an amazing amenity center in the works, even a Bark Park for the pups. Check it out! Afterwards, find great food and retail therapy at Nexton Square. Highlights include: Hall’s Nexton, Glazed Donuts, Viscious Biscuits and more.
