No running for the roses this year, but a cancelled Kentucky Derby doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy a good Kentucky Derby Bourbon Cocktail. This Bourbon mule is great for those that want a bourbon drink that’s a little lighter than a Manhattan or old fashioned.

Kentucky Derby Cocktail- Start with a good bourbon

First up, you want to start with a good bourbon. Blanton’s and Woodford Reserve are always a good choice, and Angel’s Envy is a new favorite. Crushed ice is a must for this recipe too.

When making a mule, you definitely want to use a good ginger beer. I’m here to tell you that the one you choose can make or break your cocktail. Personally, Fever Tree is my favorite. You can also use their sparkling lemon for this mule recipe if you aren’t a big fan of ginger. And to lighten it up, use half of the mixer and half lemon sparkling water. Garnish with fresh lemons and fresh mint.

theCollarfind tip:   “Slap” the mint to help to bring out the flavor. Literally slap it between your hands, we learned this from one of our favorite bartenders at Prohibition in Charleston.
