Saturdays in the South means college football and tailgating, and that’s even if you’re cheering for your team from home. Tailgating at home can be almost as much fun as actually being on campus with a little preparation. Here are a few ways to host a Tailgate From Home!

Tailgating From Home Tips!

Start with the supplies

I keep a “tailgate box” that holds all of the essentials which makes it easy when it’s game day. Have few tvs on if there are several games, and consider setting up a TV table outside if it’s nice weather. These supplies are all perfect ways to start the tablescape–no matter what team you pull for. That paper table runner is a game changer for clean up!

Team Colors

If you are all about school pride, show your school spirit by displaying the team colors. You can incorporate your team colors with flowers, linens, door decor, and don’t forget the food!

Tailgate Food

Let’s be honest one of the best parts of a tailgate is the food! A football themed charcuterie is always a hit, and make one for the kids as well, like pictured below.

Kid’s Charcuterie

No tailgate is complete without ham delights. Trust me here. Make double. They will be gone, they always are! You can find the recipe here. I remember eating these as a little girl at tailgates, and they were my fav. Our friends that we spent time with would make an extra tray for me, if that tells you how much I love them!

Bread: If I can find them, I go old school with the tiny dinner rolls that come in the metal trays, but those are awfully hard to find these days. Party rolls are fine, you just don’t want them to be too large.

Melt the butter, add mustard, worcestershire, onion and poppy seeds. Layer the ham and cheese on sliced rolls, cover with 1/2 of mixture. Place the tops back on and use the rest of the butter mixture to coat. Cover with foil and bake at 300 for 20 minutes. ( I wrap mine in foil. )

Bar

If it’s an early game start with a Bloody Mary Bar. Include all of the fixings like bacon, pickled okra, pickled green beans and more.

Serve a signature drink like a Tailgate Toddy, recipe here as well as a variety of beers and lots of water. Some signature drink name suggestions include: Tailgate Tonic, Tiger Touchdown, Flag on the Play, Dawg Drink, Gamecock Gameday, Tarheel Tequila, Bulldog Bourbon, Boozy Buckeye, Seminole Sipper are just a few fun names for a signature drink!

Have some fun!

Order personalized cups that support your team. Lead the school cheers when your team scores. Even invite friends from the opposing team to make it a bit more interesting.
