Live in the Charleston area? Coming to visit? Take a day trip to Summerville, a great southern town to explore. Summerville is a quiet town that’s known for blooming azaleas, the Greenwave football team, and the home of sweet tea. In fact, if you stop by the Visitor’s Center- they offer you a complimentary glass of tea to make you feel welcome. It’s growing fast with some amazing communities being developed and for good reason. There are many things to do, enjoy and explore in Summerville, SC.
Shop
Summerville shopping offers something for everyone. They have the big box retailers, but also a quaint downtown area full of locally owned shops. You can park on Main Street and find clothing, antiques, crafting stores and more with walking distance. Some of my favorites included:
French Mercantile for European inspired goods. Cotton Down South, across the street, has lots of Summerville and southern inspired items for the home.
Other stores we found include: People, Places and Quilts located in 100 year old hardware store. Fly Modern and Apparel and Sole for cute clothes and shoes. I may have left with a few items from here! Don’t forget the antique stores and Guerin’s Pharmacy, a long time staple on Main Street.
Eat
Instagram followers of the @thecollarfind did not disappoint when it came to suggestions for lunch and dinner in Summerville.
Some local’s suggestions included: Cuppa Manna, Eva’s on Main (Meat and Three) and Four Green Fields. This Little Piggy smelled awfully good when we walked by while shopping. In addition, the Nexton community nearby has some of my all time favorites including: Taco Boy, Poogan’s Porch, Hall’s, Vicious Biscuit and BKED Donuts.
Explore
Summerville is home to the World’s Largest Sweet Tea- and I was determined to find the statue and take a picture!
If you are looking for things to do, there is a sweet tea trail to download at https://www.visitsummerville.com/what-to-do and also a walking tour of homes and flowers. The historic homes are so beautiful! Not far up the road is the Nexton community.
Nexton
There is a reason Nexton has been named the Best Master Planned Community in South Carolina. It has everything you would look for in a community including lowcountry inspired homes, trails and blueways with water and amenities that include parks, pools, and the nicest dog park I’ve ever seen. Stay tuned for more reasons I love this community.
Hope this inspires you to take a little day trip and explore a new place.
Who am I? Just a southern momma that loves travel, a good find, a great recipe, a home decor and of course a bargain!
