DO:
There is one thing I must do during the holiday season that gives me all of the Christmas feels: head to downtown Charleston! The decorations, the shops, the unique gifts available in locally owned stores, and there is so much to see, do and eat!
If there is one thing Charlestonians know how to do it’s decorate the outside of their homes. This is especially the case during the holidays. I recommend walking through the side streets downtown and taking a look at the holiday decor. You might even spot a huge Santa hat atop a home on Murray Boulevard!
Charleston store owners take pride in their Christmas displays. I love Vieuxtemps’ version of snow. They used marshmallows to create the wintery look- how creative. Other stores to stop in and see: Croghan’s Jewel Box (the window display is amazing) , M Dumas and Sons (the best gifts for guys), and walk through the Market on Market Street if you have time- so many local vendors.
Hotel lobbys in Charleston are worth walking through as well to get in the Christmas spirit. The tree in Hotel Bennett is massive and beautiful, stop by in the late afternoon and have a glass of champagne in their pink champagne bar: Camellias.
Belmond Place has a train set that has been going through the lobby for years every Christmas to delight of little children
