This is a question many of us have, “How do we care for aging skin?” I am teaming up with Plastic Surgery of the Carolinas to share tips and tricks, products you need and procedures that will help.

Skincare Products

As we age there is a lack of moisture in the skin and a buildup of dead skin cells on the surface which can cause dullness. Medical grade Antioxidant serums, moisturizers, hyaluronic acid, and retinoids will make the skin barrier healthy, hydrate the skin, and promote new healthy cells. A good consistent regimen is important.

Everyone should be using a physician dispensed retinoid at night. It is the best anti-aging product for fine lines. During the day, apply an exfoliating lotion.

Skin under the eyes is very thin, so it ages faster than other areas. It is important to use medical grade eye cream, antioxidant serum/ vitamin C and SPF to prevent collagen breakdown.

Ashley Lovett, NP worked with me to find the best skincare routine for my skin. I am one month in and can already see a difference. Tip: Bring the products you are currently using to a consult. it helps them and you to see what you need and what you don’t.

Diamond Glow Skin Rejuvenation Facial

I had my first Diamond Glow Facial, and I can’t wait for my next. The redness was minimal, and I was able to run errands afterwards. I was shocked how much “yuk” they got out of my skin. Two friends compliments my skin the next day, too.

What is it?

DiamondGlow™ treatments can be used on the face, neck, chest, hands, or feet to address a number of skin conditions caused by sun exposure, dry skin, aging, or uneven pigmentation. Lasting around 30 minutes, DiamondGlow™ treatments work by enriching the skin with serums specifically targeted to a patient’s unique skin care needs.

How much does it cost?
$200 with the option to add on dermaplaning for $100. Once you start dermaplaning, you won’t go back!

How often should you get a facial?
According to the PLastic Surgery of the Carolinas team, it depends on skin type and goals and is best to determine a treatment plan with your provider to determine how often you should be receiving treatments. I plan to go every month.

Procedures

The Big B- Botox

It’s never too late to start getting Botox/Dysport treatments. These injections help to minimize the movement from your facial movements to prevent fine lines and wrinkles. Aside from decreasing the fine lines and wrinkles, Botox and other neuromodulators can open up the eye area, sharpen the jawline, get rid of downturned corners of the mouth, and prevent clenching and grinding of your teeth.

Other Options

Clear+Brilliant is a gentle laser that helps with pigmentation, tone, and texture. The skin will be pink/red for the day. In 24-48 hours, your skin will feel like fine grain sandpaper, but not look like it! The dead skin sloughs off over the week, but there is no social downtime. In no time you’ll notice your skin glowing and a more youthful appearance. 3 treatments recommended.

SkinPen with PRP aka platelet rich plasma or “liquid gold” is a great treatment with minimal downtime. This microneedling treatment may cause slight redness and flaking skin for 1-3 days. The aggressiveness of the treatment depends on your lifestyle, goals, and the amount of downtime you have available. This procedure has a multitude of benefits, from skin tightening and smoothing, to reducing age spots, sun damage, fine lines, acne scarring, shrink pores, and even stimulate collagen and elastin. In other words, this procedure has you covered for almost all your skin care needs. 3 treatments recommended then a yearly session of three for maintenance.

Under Eye Wrinkles

RP, Morpheus, SkinPen, and laser treatments will resurface and tighten the delicate skin. If the skin under the eyes is thin, the area appears darker as well. Tightening and thickening the skin will give a rested youthful appearance.
