Planning to travel in 2020? Our family took a tour of Europe– a sampler platter if you will- so we could expose our girls to as many countries as possible. The last stop and one of our very favorites, and I have listed some things to do in Ireland that made it so special!

They filmed The Vikings in this area

DO: We opted to spend one day in Dublin and do the “touristy” things. Dublin was great. We walked the busy streets, hit the famous spots like Temple Bar and toured the Guinness Factory.

Things to do in Ireland: One day in Dublin

However, our days exploring were the favorite by far. We rented a car and explored, and there was so much to see!

Literally stumbled into this seaside town Wicklow

Do: Get in the car and drive. We walked with the sheep, hit a beach town, explored local markets, and stopped into an Irish Yacht Club that was preparing to host a state dinner. One little seaside town we stumbled on was Wicklow. You can walk through the village, catch the famous seal leap onto land, and climb hills that give way to the most magnificent views all in one little town.

The rocky beaches were beautiful

Stay: We stayed in Dun Laoghaire, a quick drive from Dublin. The Fitzpatrick Castle was beautiful, up on a hill like you would expect. Although we were the youngest in the hotel by far, that did not stop us from enjoying afternoon tea and the basement restaurant. We typically ate in the town at a restaurant on the water.

Making memories: We pulled the car to the side of the road to look for sheep, and found a wizard instead. He was filming a scene for a video game. Can’t make this stuff up!
