Wondering where to eat in Charleston? It’s a question I get often. There are so many places to choose from, depending on what you are looking for as a destination. Below I’ve compiled a list of Charleston Restaurant Recommendations, including Mt Pleasant and the islands too. The list broken down to make it eaissier!
Seafood Lover
167 Raw is a favorite among all of the locals. There’s a reason the line at this oyster joint wraps around the street. Tempest is new on the scene, and seems to be getting rave reviews. Hank’s is an old school favorite, with the seafood tower as a must order on the menu. The Jetty has also popped up recently, with lobster rolls that look amazing!
If you are in Mt. Pleasant or staying on the island, Red Drum is a must visit. Everything there is delicious, the grouper is my favorite. Coda del Pesce on Isle of Palms has an octopus dish that gets rave reviews too!
Where the Cool Kids Eat
Need the pic for insta? Then you need to head to Leon’s Oyster Shop. Want to impress a foodie? Take them to FIG. Want to hit the newest spot in town? Check out Pink Cactus. Staying on the islands? Make a reservation at Obstinate Daughter, and get the Farro Piccolo, it’s so good.
I Don’t Want to Leave Hungry
Want a meal worthy of stretchy pants? You need to head to the local BBQ joints. There a few to choose from including Rodney Scott’s and Lewis BBQ. Felix, a beautiful establishment with a French influence has a pretty filling menu with the best cocktails! Rarebit is a favorite of mine too. The salad with a side of grilled cheese and their Moscow Mules with homemade ginger beer is so good!
Hangover Helper
Late Saturday Night? Need some substance? Look no further than Little Jack’s cheeseburger. It’s the best in town, hands down. I devoted a whole blog post to it I like it that much! Little Bar at Husk would be a close second for me! Need grease quick? Drive through Melvin’s BBQ in Mt Pleasant and grab the cheeseburger basket.
Brunch Bunch
The gospel brunch at Hall’s is a must do! Enjoy their lighter menu (they are known for steaks, too!) while gospel singers walk around filling the room with music. If you’re looking for a more low key brunch, Miller’s All Day on King Street is such a cool spot complete with a photo booth, and pink grits as well! For a quick bite, grab a pastry at the La Patisserie located in Hotel Bennett!
Dinner with a View
If you are visiting Charleston, you may want to eat with a view. My suggestion would be to go casual and eat the trashcan nachos at Saltwater Cowboys. Water’s Edge and Tavern and Table are other options with the best views in town. Another idea is to go to Hometeam BBQ on Sullivans Island (order the game changer) and then walk 2 blocks to the beach!
Tried and true
A few tried and true options include: Peninsula Grill ( save room for the coconut cake), High Thyme (locals favorite on Sullivans), Savi in Mt Pleasant has the most authentic Italian with the most incredible wine list too!
This is just a start, there are so many great places to try in town. Call before you plan to go eat, as Covid has changed some hours at many restaurants.
