Start spreading the news! In our family, we celebrate 13th and 16th birthdays with trips to the Big Apple! NYC is a great place to take teen girls or to go with friends, but it can be overwhelming. Below are some of the top things to do in New York City!

Things to do in NYC- Times Square tops the List

Tourist Time

  1. Hit Times Square– You’ve just gotta go and this needs to be on the list of things to do in New York City, no matter what age you are! My teens always want to go to the M and M’s Store, and I swear they use filters to make the place smell like chocolate!
theCollarfind tip: Upstairs on the second floor behind a display in the store has the best view of Times Square! I took this shot from there.
Chocolate overload in NYC!
Jump into a pool of sprinkles

2. Jump into a pool of sprinkles at The Museum of Sprinkles! This museum is new on the scene, and it rivals The Color Factory. Why do we love it? Lots of ice cream for the adults, lots of Instagram opportunities for the teens, and lots of fun for everyone!

theCollarfind Tip: Buy tickets in advance, and if you can, be the first appointment on a school day. We had the place to ourselves, great for pics and completely sanitized.

Pasta Bar at Eataly

Who’s Hungry?

Grab some pasta at Eataly. Truth: My teenager says the pasta here, that they make in house in front of you, is as good as pasta we had in Florence, Italy! While you are there, pop upstairs to see Serra, the restaurant that changes with the seasons. Other places we ate and enjoyed included Prince Street Pizza, Pietro Nolita, Balthazar and Tulips and Bread.

5. Catch a Broadway Play! Whether you like singing, dancing or drama, there will be something for you. We chose Mean Girls, and it was great.

Catch a show on Broadway!

theCollarfindtip: If your heart is not set on a specific play, take your chances and wait until the day off. You then can get tickets through various TKTS booths around NYC or walk up the box office like we did and asked for seats available. Either way you end up with discounted tickets..yay! ( And if you plan to have a cocktail at the show, you will need a discounted tickets. Goodness gracious they are expensive!)

Chelsea Market

6. Stop into Chelsea Market. This was my first time stopping in and I will be back! Great local vendors and artisans, jewelry at reasonable prices and yummy food too!

7. Shop Soho and stop into Gucci. The Gucci store changes themes every few months. The staff is amazing and will greet you with a cocktail. And don’t worry- they are not commission based so no pressure to buy anything. They have a movie theater in the back of the store, a great place to rest your feet. Look for celebrities, we missed a Jonas brother by a day. When we were there they even invited us back for a book signing event that evening.

Give me all the Gucci!

Sweet treats

8. Grab a sweet treat! Macarons at Laduree. Cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery. Cronuts made famous in NYC. Frozen Hot Chocolate from Serendipity. Shakes from Black Tap. The list goes on and on…..

Enjoy the view

9. Enjoy the View! While our hotel was not prime location for SoHo shopping, it had the best rooftop views. Find a place to head to the top floor and enjoy all that NYC has to offer!
